Websites & Electronic Resources

College of Physicians Consumer Health Section from the website of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia provides residents of Greater Philadelphia with access to a wide range of current, reliable, and jargon-free medical, health and wellness resources.

Medlineplus: a website maintained by the National Institutes of Health that offers a "goldmine of good health information from the world's largest medical library, the National Library of Medicine."

Oncolink: a website devoted to information on all types of cancer, prevention and treatment. The site is maintained by the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania. OncoLink was founded in 1994 by Penn cancer specialists with a mission to help cancer patients, families, health care professionals and the general public get accurate cancer-related information at no charge.

Copecaredeal: a mental health website for adolescents produced by the Adolescent Mental Health Initiative, funded by the Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands. It gives expert, trustworthy information about anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, meed disorders, and other mental health topics written in a supportive, teen-friendly voice.

WebMD: a commercial provider of online information, educational services and communities for physicians and consumers.

Drug Information from United States Pharmacopeia (United States Pharmacopeial Convention) - a guide to more than 9,000 prescription and over-the-counter medications. This website is part of Medlineplus.

Merck Manual: The Second Home Edition aims to meet the growing demand of the general public for highly detailed, complete, authoritative medical information. The book covers many difficult medical concepts, but it does so in everyday language.

Healthfinder: an award-winning Federal Web site, developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services together with other Federal agencies that is a resource for finding the best government and nonprofit health and human services information on the Internet.

NIOSH Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards: a source of general industrial hygiene information on several hundred chemicals/classes for workers, employers, and occupational health professionals.

Food Safety.Gov: a gateway website that provides links to selected government food safety-related information. It is maintained by Food and Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.

Abington Health Lansdale Hospital (formerly Central Montgomery Medical Center): a 135-bed, acute care general hospital providing a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient healthcare services. Poison Control Center at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is the regional poison control services provider for eastern Pennsylvania offering a 24-hour-a-day emergency hotline for poisoning incidents and poison information.

National Mental Health Association: the country's oldest and largest nonprofit organization addressing all aspects of mental health and mental illness.
